Abstract

REVIEW ON MENOPAUSE

ABSTRACT

Women usually spend the last third of their lifetime in menopause, after their reproductive years have ended. A majority of women will experience bothersome symptoms related to declining and/or fluctuating levels of estrogen during their menopausal transition. The menopausal transition precedes menopause by several years and is usually characterized by irregularity of the menstrual cycle and by hot flashes and night sweats. These common menopausal symptoms all improve with estrogen treatment. In Ayurveda, Menopause condition is termed as „Rajonivrutti” and symptom are regarded as imbalance of the Tridosha and Dhatukshya which occurs as a natural & gradual consequence of aging. Ayurveda, the science of life, advocates a holistic treatment for Menopausal syndrome by modification of diet & life style, and offers a reliable option to the convention treatment also involves correcting hormonal imbalance with Samshamana therapy, Samshodhana therapy, Rasayana therapy and Yoga therapy. Understanding the natural history of menopausal symptoms, and the risks and benefits of both hormonal and non-hormonal alternatives, helps the clinician for management plans to improve quality of life.
