Syifa Adriani*, Almahdy A. and Dedy Almasdy

ABSTRACT

Irrational use of medicines is still a major problem facing most health systems around the world. The presence of leftover drugs is one of the impacts of irrational use of drugs. The storage of drugs in the community, especially in the household, will trigger the emergence of irrational use if it is not followed in the right way. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between respondents' characteristics and the characteristics of leftover drugs and how to manage leftover drugs in the Andalas Community Health Center Working Area. This was a descriptive analytics with a cross sectional approach with cluster random sampling techniques. The statistical analysis used was the Chi-Square test. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between employment status and the management of leftover drugs, including respondents examining the expiration time (p=0.000), how to dispose of leftover drugs (p=0.009), and respondents' opinions about the impact of improperly disposing of drugs (p=0.000)

Keywords: Leftover drugs, unused medication, medication wastage, household, work area of andalas community health center.
