Abstract

A CASE STUDY ON AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF GARBHINI CHARDI W.S.R TO EMESIS GRAVIDARUM

ABSTRACT

Emesis Gravidarum is commonest problem in pregnancy throughout the world seen in first trimester of pregnancy. About 80 percent of pregnant woman experience nausea and vomiting during first trimester of pregnancy, which starts in morning & continues throughout the day. Emesis Gravidarum can be correlated with Garbhini chardi which is considered as vyakta garbha lakshana according to Acharya Charak. When Chardi is seen as Vyakta Garbha Lakshana[1], there is no harm on growing fetus & mother. But when it is seen in excess it becomes troublesome. Therefore it should be treated earlier and prevent further complications, as it causes severe dehydration, fatigue, weight loss. Various drugs for management of Garbhini Chardi has been described in classical texts, among which Shwetambhoj is selected for the study mentioned in Bhaavprakash Nighantu.[2] Shwetambhoj given by Bhaavprakash is mentioned in Chapter Yonirog Adhikaar, which is used in Garbhini Chardi. Aim: To study the effect of Shwetambhoj kwaath paan in the management of Garbhini Chardi. Materials and Methods: A 26 years old female patient primigravidae, with period of gestation of 7 weeks 6 days came to OPD & had complaints of nausea, anorexia, excessive salivation, 6-8 episodes of vomitting a day. here patient was given Shwetambhoj kwath paan 10 ml BD before meal for 30 days Present study was carried out in Shri vivekanand Nursing Home Trust’s Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya and Hospital, Shrishivajinagar Rahuri Factory, Taluka- Rahuri, District – Ahmednagar. Maharashtra University of Health Science Nashik. Result: There was a significant improvement seen in reducing nausea and vomiting. Therefore maternal health & fetus health is not affected.
