Abstract

EVALUATION OF PRESCRIPTION PATTERN OF ANTIDENGUE DRUGS IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT

Dengue fever also called breakbone fever is a mosquito borne viral disease occurring in tropical and subtropical areas characterized by high fever, headache, rash, muscle and joint pain. In severe cases there is serious bleeding and shock which can be fatal. The present study was conducted to discover the prescription pattern of anti-diabetic drugs from in-patient department of District Hospital Singtam, East Sikkim. The study was performed using prescription of around 30 patients in District Hospital Singtam, East Sikkim suffering from dengue was a prospective case study carried out on the patient record files admitted in the in-patient department from March 2021-April 2022. Out of the 30 prescription of dengue patients drugs 83.33% were for men and 16.67% were for women indicating that men predominated over women. Ceftraixome and other commonly prescribed drugs such as metrogyl, doxycycline, amoxycyllin were most commonly prescribed. Intravenous fluid was given to almost all patients. More information of prescribed drugs and the side effects is required for ensuring patients safety.
