ROLE OF IMMUNOMODULATOR HERBS IN CANCER– AN AYURVEDA APPROACH

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Cancer is a multifactorial disease involving a complex phenomenon that can affect any part of the body. According to WHO (World Health Organization), Cancer is the main leading cause of death with an estimated 10 million deaths and 19.3 million new cancer cases in 2020 worldwide. Unhealthy, an unwholesome diet, tobacco and alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, pollution, pesticides exposure, and food residue have increased the prevalence rate of cancer disease recently. Despite the advances taking place day by day in the form of organic food, healthy diet consumption, and treatment protocol cancer prevention or cure is still a major challenge the world is facing in the present scenario. So, the objectiveof this review study is to reduce the risk of cancer occurrence and to improve the quality of life in cancer patients by enhancing immune response using Rasayana herbs with Immunomodulator activity. Data Source: Different research articles from various scientific journals and internet sources, Ayurveda Samhitas, and modern medical books were referred to understand the concept of Cancer, immunity, immunomodulators in Ayurveda, and modern aspect, Rasayana concept, etc. The immunomodulator and anticancerous effects of Rasayana plants were compiled for evidence-based study. Conclusion: Immunomodulators are medications used to help regulate or normalize the immune system. Rasayana plants mentioned in Ayurveda classics have a great role to play as immunomodulators in cancer.
