UPGRADATION OF FORENSIC SCIENCE SERVICES FOR EFFECTIVE USE IN CRIME INVESTIGATION

ABSTRACT

The upgradation of forensic science laboratory is essential for effective crime investigation. The advance techniques like DNA, cyber forensic, voice analysis, speaker identification should use in crime investigation. Considering the crime rate, Forensic science Laboratories should have forensic examination facilities like chemical, biological, serological & toxicological science, Narcotic, DNA, ballistics, documents, psychology, digital forensic, cyber forensic…etc. Justice V S Malimath committee report (2003) and Justice J S Verma committee (2013) have suggested for making efforts in the direction of scientific criminal investigation and computer forensics. The Law commission in its 185th report has also recommended including DNA testing in Indian evidence act. In present article, need and area of upgradation of facilities in Forensic Laboratories and steps taken in Maharashtra are discussed. The funding of central government is available for strengthening of DNA testing, Cyber forensic and mobile laboratory facilities for collection, preservation and examination in state forensic Science laboratories under Nirbhaya fund scheme.
