Yadav Aditi*, Tiwari R. C., Dikshit Manisha, Pandey and Singh Rajkumar

ABSTRACT

Mosquitoes are the most disturbing insects which are very hazardous to humanity. Mosquitoes are known to spread deadly vector borne diseases. Acharya Susruta has mentioned Mashak in Kalpasthana. The Keet Visha section also describes 5 different varieties of Mashak. Agad Tantra provides descriptions of a wide range of medications and formulas used to prevent mosquito (keet) harm. Acharya Charaka in this series describes "Jatvaadi dhoomagad" to prevent mosquito (keet) harm. Objective: To evaluate the larvicidal effect of jatvaadi dhoomagad extract against aedes aegypti mosquito. Methods: The petroleum ether, chloroform, methanol, and Aqueous extract of jatvaadi dhoomagad was used against aedes aegypti in this study. Results: The maximum rate of larval death against Aedes aegypti was found in a chloroform extract of Jatvaadi dhoomagad in 24 hours. Conclusions: These results suggest that the extracts of jatvaadi dhoomagad have no potential to be used as an ideal ecofriendly approach for the control of aedes aegypti. This study provides the report on the larvicidal activity of jatvaadi dhoomagad extracts against aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
