ABSTRACT
Addiction can be defined as a chronic brain disease which include craving and relapsing disease that is usually characterized by compulsive substance or drug seeking for use in despite of harmful consequences. Drug abuse is considered as great challenge to social and public health in the world. Hence the present study was designed to perform toxicological and antiaddictive property of Andrographis Paniculata following Apomorphine induced addiction in rat model. Adult wistar rats (180-250gm) were trained and exposed to addiction by using Apomorphine-induced addiction (1 mg/kg/ml, i.p.) for 12 days. Andrographis Paniculata formulation of three different doses range (100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg, p.o.) was given to test groups. 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg was considered as low,
mid and high dose respectively for anti-addictive effect. The Andrographis Paniculata formulation showed significant action with potent antiaddictive activity which could be attributed to its flavonoid property that has antioxidant property. The present study provides evidence that Apomorphine (1 mg/kg) produces a significant place preference in rats. Hence used as addiction induced agent. From the results it was concluded that Andrographis Paniculata formulation showed significant antiaddictive activity.
