A REVIEW ARTICLE ON AKAALA PRASAVA: AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE OF PRETERM LABOUR

ABSTRACT

Preterm birth is a serious health and social problem; consider the leading cause of neonatal mortality all over the world. It is associated with sensorineural impairments, neurodevelopmental morbidity, and other complications of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and renal systems. Inspite of major advances in obstetrics and neonatal care, there has been no decrease in the incidence of preterm labour over half century. As per ayurveda preterm labour i.e. Akaal prasava results due to malfunctioning of apan vayu which helps in Garbha nishkramankriya. Ayurvedacharya has explained antenatal care like dietetics, mode of life to be avoided by pregnant woman (Garbhopaghatakar bhav), drugs for the maintenance of pregnancy(garbhasthapak aushadhi), etc.
