JAMUN (EUGENIA JAMBOLANA): A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Jamun or Black Plum is a very common fruit and is obtained from Eugenia Jambolana Linn known as Syzygium Cumini Linn of family Myrtaceae. The genus comprises about 1200 species. Jamun is considered as a traditional medicine. Unani medicine prescribes Jamun for different lifestyle diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disorder and age related muscular degeneration. Jamun is full of carbohydrate, vitamin c, protein, magnesium, potassium, antioxidants and minerals. Keeping in view of the high medicinal factors, it was intended to adopt an overview on this highly important medicinal plant.
