Abstract

COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF PUNARNAVADI GUGGULU AND KAISHORE GUGGULU IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VATARAKTA VIS-A-VIS GOUT

ABSTRACT

The name of the disease Vatarakta is coined on the basis of the pathogenesis (Samprapti Ghataka) that is Vata dosha and Rakta dhatu involved in the disease. Intense painful condition, initial site of manifestation i.e. involvement of hands and feet and other clinical features can be compared with the disease “Gout” described in modern medicine. Vatarakta is more distressing and common metabolic disorder prevalent in present era with proper mediations and diet. Keeping this in considerations, a comparative clinical study was conducted at V.Y.D.S. Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Khurja to compare the efficacy of Ayurvedic medicine Punarnavadi Guggulu and Kaishore Guggulu in the management of Vatarakta vis-a-vis Gout with certain dietary modifications like low protein diet, avoid high purine-rich foods, avoid alcoholic drinks etc. Defining to the benefits assessed both the drugs were found capable to enforce relief, but based on % of improvement and clinical assessment of result, it can be concluded that Kaishore Guggulu was more effective than Punarnavadi Guggulu in most of the sign and symptom of the disease at extremely significant level.
