Abstract

A CLASSICAL REVIEW ON ARSHA ROGA

ABSTRACT

Arsha are very common problem in our day to day life which is affecting people of every age group. Arsha is mentioned in our all Ayurvedic texts. In Ayurveda it is mentioned as an enemy because it is difficult to cure and gives trouble to the people. Signs & symptoms of Arsha are similar as features of piles. Piles are inflamed vein and capillaries around the rectum. It is caused by mainly due to our dietary habits, psychological disturbances and sedentary lifestyle. In Ayurveda many dietary concepts has been explained by Acharyas for Arsha. Piles are mainly classified as external & internal. The main symptoms of piles are bleeding, pain and prolapsed mass. The modern treatments of piles are medical symptomatic management, injection therapy, rubber band ligation, cryosurgery & haemorrhoidectomy etc. In Ayurveda Acharya Sushruta has given 4 types of measures for the treatment of Arsha i.e Bhesaja, Kshar-Karma, Agni-Karma and Shastra-Karma.[1]
