Abstract

EVALUATING THE EFFECT OF PRE-POST KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE AMONG CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE PATIENTS AT GOVERNMENT GENERAL HOSPITAL IN NEPHROLOGY DEPARTMENT, GUNTUR

ABSTRACT

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is condition where the decreasing function of renal and it is considered as major leading problem in public health sector. Now-a-days due to lack of health knowledge among the population (both healthy and disease population) act as a barrier achieving the therapeutic goals. Understanding about the knowledge, Attitude and Practices which is associated with chronic kidney disease is vital to optimal policy and public health responses to the patients. To address this gap we conducted this study. Main Aim and scope of this study is to evaluate the effect of Knowledge, Attitude and practice among the chronic kidney disease patients in tertiary teaching care hospital. A prospective observational study was conducted at department of Nephrology in Government General Hospital, Guntur for duration of 6months after obtaining approval from Institutional Ethics Committee. The patients screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. 94 patients who satisfy the inclusion were included in the study after obtaining informed consent. The data was collected in the designed data collection form, where the patient’s knowledge, attitude, practices towards the disease is assessed by using KAP questionnaire. The collected data was analysed by using SPSS software and Microsoft excel worksheets. 94 patients met the inclusion criteria were included in the study and collected data was tabulated and analysed. For the assessment of the study results we categorised the patients with in the age group, gender & stages of CKD. In our study we assessed the pre-post Knowledge, Attitude and Practice among 94 Chronic kidney Disease patients. The results were found to be before counselling Knowledge (54.3%), Attitude (59.37), and practice (69.2%). A p-value (0.034) was considered to be significant. Based on the result we conclude that there is significant improvement in the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice towards the disease. Clinical pharmacist services plays a major role in improving the patient’s health knowledge by counselling the patient using a patient information leaflet regarding the disease condition and helps in maintaining a balanced nutritional status by providing diet charts. All these together improve patient’s health condition.
