Abstract

AYURVEDIC REMEDIES OF ZIKA VIRUS (ZIKV)

ABSTRACT

In a Quest, to solve the quandary, a study conducted after first appearance of Zika virus (ZIKV) in 1947, resulting in a declaration of an international “public health emergency” in 2016 by the World Health Organization (WHO). Up until then, ZIKV was considered to produce only mild ailment but now it is arising ultimatum far and wide which might be responsible for Microcephaly and Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) in the infants. Zika infection is mosquito transmitted infection belonging to Flaviviridae family. Mainly, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus species of mosquitoes transmitted the Zika virus to people. It can also be transmitted by sex and blood transfusion. Flaviviruses causes numerous human diseases including Dengue, West Nile, Japanese encephalitis, Tick-borne encephalitis and Zika virus infection. ZIKV succeeded in reminding us of the tenacious requisite to sharpen our weaponry against emerging pathogens. Vaccination or antiviral drug either from modern, complementary and alternative medicines may be recognized as among the most important effectual strategies in the control of ZIKV infection. Currently, precaution is the only key to Zika virus infection. In spite of all these we have to move rapidly in developing novel therapies that work effectively to overcome ZIKV associated diseases. It is undeniable that Ayurveda is always a golden remedy for all the emerging diseases. So, in this article, we centralized the Ayurveda interventions for ZIKV infection. Drugs like Psiloxylon, Aphloia theiformis, Tinospora cordifolia, EGCG, Curcumin, Silymarin, Berberin were found to most effective in Zika virus infection.
