ABSTRACT
Siddha system mainly relies on the fundamental principles of five elemental theory (Pancha bootha), three humours (uyir thathukal). The derangement in the above mentioned fundamental principles results in various diseases. The polyherbal formulation kabangusa chooranam is a classic Siddha drug internal medicine used to treat kapha rogam (respiratory diseases). Kabangusa chooranam is used to treat acute respiratoty diseases to chronic respiratory diseases such as common cold, cough, Asthma, COPD, Tuberculosis etc. which are recorded
with higher prevalence and incidence with rates, most commonly in developing countries like India. The objective of the study is to evaluate the compounds present in the polyherbal Siddha formulation Kabangusa Chooranam. The biochemical analysis of the Kabangusa chooranam reveals the presence of amino acids, tannic acid, reducing sugar, unsaturated compound, chloride, sulphate, starch. The compounds present in the chooranam enchances the therapeutic action of the drug.
