ABSTRACT
The present work was carried out to study the disintegrant property of Plantago Ovata mucilage, by developing and evaluating immediate release tablet of Irbesartan prepared by using Psyllium as natural superdisintegrant to enhance the disintegration and dissolution rate of Irbesartan. It is an antihypertensive of class angiotensin II receptor blocker. PEG4000 & PEG 6000 are used as surfactant for increasing solubility of irbesartan in water by formulating as solid dispersion with kneading and solvent evaporation method. Immediate release tablet was formulated by using Plantago Ovata mucilage as natural
superdisintegrant and Croscarmellose sodium as synthetic super disintegrant by direct compression method. Other excipients used are Microcrystalline cellulose as filler and Talc as diluent. Solid dispersion was evaluated for Drug and Excipient compatibility study using FT-IR, DSC, Powder X-ray diffraction. Also evaluated for physical appearance, percent practical yield, percent drug content, solubility and In-Vitro dissolution study. Immediate release tablets were evaluated for drug and excipient compatibility study and then for pre-compression and post-compression parameters.
