ABSTRACT

Among various Mutraroga, Vatashtheela and Mutrakrichchhra are the most common anomalies of urinary tract, suffering the mankind very frequently. Several treatment modalities are tailored, in Ayurvedic classics for treating Vatashtheela & Mutrakrichchhra. Among these, the Basti Chikitsa & Marma Chikitsa is elected and was used in this research work, which is entitled as “A COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF BASTI CHIKITSA & MARMA CHIKITSA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VATASHTHEELA (BPH) & MUTRAKRICHCHHRA (UTI)”. These two treatment modalities were used in the form of Basti per rectum alone (in Group A) and Basti per rectum along with Marma Chikitsa (in Group B).This was a randomized comparative clinical study in the patients of Vatashtheela (BPH) and Mutrakrichchhra (UTI) at Shalya ward of I.P.D. and O.P.D. of Rishikul Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Randomly 30 patients of Vatashtheela and Mutrakrichchhra were selected and divided into two groups (A & B). 15 patients of group A were treated with Basti per rectum, once daily and remaining 15 patients of group B were treated with Basti per rectum, once daily along with Marma Chikitsa, locally, thrice daily, for 21 days of treatment period. The work was aimed to assess its safety and efficacy of the therapy by adopting advanced scientific parameters and to evaluate the changes in maximum urine flow rate (Qmax), PVRU and prostate size (by uroflowmetry and USG whole abdomen). On observation it was found that, group B which was treated with Basti Chikitsa & Marma Chikitsa is more effective as compare to group A which was treated with Basti Chikitsa alone in all the parameters. A satisfactory positive result was obtained and was statically significant without any adverse effects during the treatment as well as follow up period.
