ABSTRACT

Aim: To evaluate the anti-epileptic activity of combination drug of green tea and curcumin Extract. Method: The anti-epileptic activity of combination drug of green tea and curcumin extract is studied by Maximal electroshock seizures (MES) Convulsions and Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced convulsions methods using Swiss Albino Mice (n=6) divided into five groups. Results: The levels of GABA and glutamate in the PTZ induced seizures significantly increase (p value<0.01) and standard and treatment groups showed significant decrease (p value<0.01) respectively and there is increase in the levels of anti-oxidants like SOD, LPO, Catalase, Glutathione peroxidase and Glutathione reductase. Conclusion: The levels of GABA and glutamate in group IV and V significantly decreased and anti-oxidants levels increased respectively which plays an important role in the protection of epilepsy from the results it is evident that combination of Green Tea and Curcumin produces significant Anti-epileptic activity.

Keywords: Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ), Maximal electroshock seizures (MES), GABA, Glutamate.
