ABSTRACT

The aim of the present research work was to formulate and evaluate fast dissolving tablets of Domperidone using various natural superdisintegrants. Natural superdisintegrants like Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (HRS) mucilage, Treated agar and Dehydrated Banana Powder (DBP) were selected for the preparation of fast dissolving tablets of Domperidone. The FTIR analysis revealed that different superdisintegrants and excipients used for FDTs were compatible with Domperidone. All the prepared tablets were evaluated for hardness, thickness, friability, weight variation, content uniformity, in-vitro disintegration time and in-vitro drug release studies. All the prepared fast dissolving tablet formulations were within the pharmacopoeial standard limits. According to results of different formulation it has been concluded that formulation (F2) which is prepared by using natural superdisintegrant of HRS mucilage showed least disintegration time of 13.29 sec and maximum drug release of (99.1%) within 4 min and which was concluded has the best formulation when compared to synthetic tablet formulation (F1) using crospovidone (96.01%).

Keywords: Domperidone, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis mucilage, Dehydrated Banana Powder, Treated Agar, Natural Superdisintegrants, Fast Dissolving Tablets.
