ABSTRACT
Co-crystallization is a method by that the molecular interactions will be altered to optimize the drug properties. Co-crystals comprise a multicomponent system of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) with a ratio quantity of a pharmaceutically acceptable co-former incorporated within the lattice while not ever-changing the chemical composition of the API. Co-crystallization will improve physiochemical properties like solubility, dissolution rate, chemical stability and melting point of drug. Pharmaceutical scientists are attractive towards Co-crystals technique because they can significantly diversify the number of crystal forms that exist for a particular active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), and they can lead to improvements in
physical properties of clinical relevance. The article gives a brief review on the co-crystallization, selection drug and appropriate co-formers for preparation of co-crystals, the methods used to prepare co-crystals, their characterization and various applications in pharmaceutical fields.
Keywords: Co-crystallization, Co-crystals, Co-former, Solubility, Chemical stability.
