REVIEW ON HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE

ABSTRACT
The terms health-related quality of life and quality of life sound similar and are used synonymously. But the concept of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) – in other words, the complete state of physical, social, and psychological functioning. Quality of life is known as the degree to which an individual is healthy, congenial, and able to involve in or enjoy life events. These terms are different hence their appropriate and clear use is important. A review made the history and definitions of the terms and considers how they have been used. A questionnaire on HRQOL measures self-perceived health status and the
use of the phrase QOL is unjustified. It is concluded that the concept of HRQOL and QOL is used for the health benefit of the public by avoiding confusion among these terminologies. This can be avoided by defining QOL as a concept including various aspects such as material comforts, health, etc, and HRQOL focuses on people’s level of ability, daily functioning.
