PREVALENCE AND CAUSE OF ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD): A BRIEF REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a Neurodevelopmental disorder affecting millions of children and often continues into adulthood. ADHD includes a combination of persistent problems, such as difficulty in sustaining attention, hyperactivity and impulsive behaviour. ADHD may have serious consequences like school failure, family stress, and depression, problems with relationships, substance abuse and job failure. Early identification and treatment are extremely important. Articles were collected from the online sources such as PUBMED, WHO,FDA and GOOGLESCHOLAR and a review was prepared by using these articles. The data obtained from the articles will be analysed, assessed
and interpreted. Based on the articles reviewed there were high number of cases reported who had ADHD but were not diagnosed prior to the research and males were in high number compared to females and the causes for ADHD even though is not clear but some of the factors which are thought to contribute for the disorder were analysed and found that iron, vitamin D deficiency, Obesity, Turner syndrome(in women) were the co morbid disorders existing and found to be contributing to the development of ADHD.
