ABSTRACT
Vrana is defined as destruction or damage of a tissue in a part of body.[1] Vrana can broadly be categorized into two types- Shuddha Vrana[2] & Dushta Vrana.[3] Vrana having doshika vitiation is known as dushta Vrana. The wound in which infection persists for a long time is called „Dushta Vrana’. According to Ayurvedic classics „Nadi Vrana’ comes under dushta Vrana, because of its non-healing property. According to Acharya Sushruta, Nadi vrana manifests due to negligence of Vrana-shopha.[4] If Vranashopha is not incised in pakvaavastha, then it results in formation of Nadivrana. Nadivrana can be correlated with tubular wounds, either in the form of Sinus or Fistula, which can occur at different sites of our body. Common afflicted sites include Perianal area and natal cleft. Nadi refers to “sinus”, a cavity in any organ or tissue. Acharya Sushruta, the Father of surgery has described Nadi Vrana first time in detail including etiological factors, classifications, symptomatology, pathology, complications & its management in a most scientific manner. Incidence of this disease is becoming increasingly common in either sexes and all age groups.
