VATASHTHEELA VIS-À-VIS BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA: A CRITICAL REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda is the oldest healthcare system in the world which deals with the science of life and longevity. Urological problems remain a very important part of the medical science which is evident from the ancient study. A lot of description is available in Ayurvedic classics regarding urological problems under the heading of Mutraghata, Mutrakrichchhra, Ashmari and Vatashtheela. Vatashtheela (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) is common problem of elderly males. It often has a serious impact on qualitiy of life. Even after surgical management, the symptoms often persist. Thus, most of the time, conservative Ayurvedic management is very helpful in providing relief to the patient.
