ABSTRACT
Ezetimibe is a lipid-lowering drug that belongs to a cholesterol absorption inhibitor. Ezetimibe obstructs the absorption of dietary cholesterol. Ezetimibe when administered alone or with other drugs like statins or fibrates, ezetimibe decreases the LDP level by 15-20% and increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) by 2.5-5%. Ezetimibe is mainly incorporated with other lipid-lowering drugs which are mainly statins. This drug crucially shows a decrease in low-density lipoproteins cholesterol levels. The prescribed dose of ezetimibe is 10mg/day that can be administered in the morning or can be in the evening without regard to food. Pharmacokinetics of ezetimibe has no clinically significant effect on age, sex, or race. Various analytical
methods are available for ezetimibe alone and also with drug combinations. Analytical methods include UV, HPLC, HPTLC, and the validation parameters are also elaborated for ezetimibe in these methods.
