A REVIEW ON MEDICINAL PLANTS USED FOR MURAI SURAM (MALARIAL FEVER)

ABSTRACT

Siddha system is one of the ancient systems of medicine in India was introduced by the ancient scientists who were called as Siddhars. Siddha system of medicine is a distinct therapeutic science with many single drugs and compound formulations used for treating broad spectrum of ailments. It’s rich herbal curatives and many of the preparations mentioned in the literatures are practiced in day today life in southern India. It’s holistic medical science which cures body and mind. According to the Siddha system of medicine diet and life style plays a major role in health and in curing diseases. Malaria is a protozoal disease which comes under fever caused by any one or combination of 5 species of Plasmodium. According to this review, 34 herbs are used for Murai suram and their details were collected from Siddha literature. In this review article we made an attempt to summarize the phytoconstituents, pharmacological actions and therapeutic effects of the medicinal plants to treat for Murai suram.
