ABSTRACT
Siddha system is the ancient traditional system of Indian medicine uses metals including Iron as medications. Iron has it traces in ancient history of medicine. In present day modern system uses Iron to treat anaemia but this was earlier mentioned by siddhars millions of years ago. Iron act as free radical scavenging factor since many hydroxyl radicals known as reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced during metabolic reactions in the body. Since stress is one of the major reason in promoting ROS to the extent in the body which can cause disease like Anaemia, vitiligo and obesity. Hence this review was done to throw light on the aspect of Iron in promoting the catalase enzyme activity. Since catalase is one of the crucial antioxidant enzyme present
in iron capable of reducing the ROS thus by treating the diseases. This paper deals with importance of iron in promoting catalse activity which of its deficiency leads to Anaemia, followed by vitiligo and obesity which could be correlated with stanzas mentioned by siddhars.
Keywords: Iron –catalase – Anaemia – vitiligo – Obesity.
