ABSTRACT
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic condition that affects people all over the world and is rapidly becoming a major hazard to humanity. There are several chemical agents available for regulating and treating diabetic patients, but no complete recovery has been observed so far. Aside from side effects, medication therapies aren't always effective in maintaining a normal blood glucose level and preventing late-stage diabetes problems. Plants are a possible source of hypoglycemic medications and are frequently employed in numerous traditional
systems of medicine to treat this condition or as adjuvant in the treatment of this disease. Several medicinal plants have been studied for their potential to help people with diabetes. Plant products have generally been in high demand because of their low cost, ease of availability, and low side effects. Some of the most significant plants that have survived the test of time and proven effective in the treatment of diabetes are reviewed below. Damage caused by free radicals is one of the etiologic factors implicated in the development of diabetes and its consequences, thus an anti-diabetic drug with antioxidant characteristics would be more useful. As a result, information on the anti-diabetic medicinal herbs is presented as well.
