PREVALENCE AND DRUG EFFICACY AGAINST GASTROINTESTINAL NEMATODES PARTICULARLY HEAMONCHUS CONTORTUS IN DISTRICT KOHAT, PAKISTAN

ABSTRACT
Drug efficacy against the gastrointestinal nematodes Heamonchus Contortus in District Kohat, Pakistan. Fecal and blood Samples (n=300) were collected from Sheep (n=150) and goats (n=150) and were processed in the Lab. These two groups were further categorized into three groups based on age i.e group 1(below 1 year), group 2 (between1-2years), and Group 3(above 2years). In sheep, the overall prevalence was 56% which were further categorized as that Heamonchus contortus (HC) was (26%), while Strongyloides, Fasciola, and Ostertagia were 14%, 10.66%, and 5.33% respectively.
Similarly, In goat, the overall prevalence was 43.34% which were further categorized as that HC (11.33%), while Strongyloides, Fasciola, and Ostertagia were 12%, 8. 66%, and 13.33% respectively. Based on age in sheep, the prevalence was 4.6%, 7.33%, and 14% in group1, 2 and 3 respectively while in goats the prevalence was 2%, 4%, and 5.33% in group1,2 and 3 respectively. Blood samples were also processed and the whole Blood profile was recorded in the animals having positive samples. In last the different dewormers like albendazole, oxfendazole, benzimidazole, and levamisole were utilized to devise a control strategy. The results revealed that levamisole and benzimidazole are very effective against this parasite.
