Abstract

ACETAMINOPHEN (PARACETAMOL)

ABSTRACT

There are growing reports of unintentional drug overdose of acetaminophen (paracetamol, rINN) hepatotoxicity. To reduce this risk, the dose of acetaminophen should not exceed the limit the highest dose recommended, is appropriate for the patient's weight, and minimizes the risk features of hepatotoxicity are present, eg, age, malnutrition, fasting / anorexia, concomitant use of drugs that interact with acetaminophen metabolism, as well as chronic alcohol use. For the purposes of international education and comparison, this article also refers to indirect construction found in the USA, e.g., propacetamol.
