ABSTRACT

Transient bacteria are deposited in the skin surface from environmental sources and cause skin infection. Nowadays because of the changing environment and pollution the human skin much more prone to these kind of skin infections. The organism which causes harmful effect on the skin is for example, are Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and fungi such as candida albicans. Presently, the increasing resistance of microorganism to currently used antimicrobial in combination with the appearance of emerging disease require urgent development of new, more effective drugs. Plants, due to the large biological and structural diversity of their components, constitute a unique and renewable source for the discovery of new antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic compounds. Because of the increasing encounter of the skin with this microorganism the infection that causes skin damage is becoming severe. The use of natural plant material to combat this is a new emerging solution because chemicals used in the product that protect the skin against these microorganisms can also cause damage to skin. Essential oils also have high potential against these microorganisms. Essential oils are natural, complex compounds that are produced by plants as secondary metabolites for the protection against bacteria, fungi, viruses and pests. Today, antioxidant, antitumor, and antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial activity of the essential oils their constituents are widely studied. The present review focused on the antimicrobial and antiseptic activity of formulated herbal soap from extracted plant materials and essential oils. In this present review, we discussed about the sources of different plant materials and essential oils, their historical uses, formulation of herbal soap, formability test of the formulated soap, antimicrobial activity of the formulated soap, mechanism of action of herbal soap, antioxidant activity of soap, stability of the soap, synergic effect of soap and limitation of soap.

Keywords: Skin infection, Plant extract, essential oils, herbal soap formulation, antimicrobial activity, antiseptic activity of soap, antiviral activity, antifungal activity, antitumor activity, antiparasitic activity, foam ability test, synergic effect.
