Abstract

A BRIEF REVIEW ON CONTROLLED DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

Nidhi Sharma* and Dr. Pranav Kumar Upadhyay

ABSTRACT

The procedure of administering a therapeutic material to humans or animals for clinical efficacy is known as drug supply. Traditional drug delivery has no control over the medication's release and almost no control over its ability to achieve the desired concentration. This type of medicating method can result in unanticipated variations in plasma concentrations. Controlled-release devices are used to regulate the drug's plasma concentration after it has been administered via multiple routes. These are the systems that release the medicine in a specified manner over a set amount of time. In the plasma and at the target location, the release kinetics is usually zero-order. In an ideal world, the rate determining step for drug absorption, as well as drug concentration in plasma and target sites, would be the release rate from the dose form. The controlled release formulations will lower the number of doses needed on a daily basis. This article provides an ideal requirements, advantages, properties and different approaches involved in the development of controlled release formulations for the better delivery of drugs.

Keywords: Controlled release, Formulation Drug concentration, Plasma Concentration, Zero order.
