PHARMACOGNOSTICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL EVALUATION OF PALASHADI YOGA BASTI IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ADENOMYOSIS

ABSTRACT

Background: Palasha Basti is indicated in Anaha, Parsoshoola, Yonidosha, Gulma and Udavarta. It also increases strength of body & maintains complexion of body. Relating adenomyosis as a complication of Udavartani Yonivyapad, Palashadi Basti can be given along with oral medication to reverse the pathogenesis and treat the disease. So, for the assurance of quality of herbal compounds, pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical analysis of the drug should be done. Methods: Freshly prepared Basti was subjected to microscopic evaluation for pharmacognostical, physiochemical analysis like specific gravity, solid content & pH value by pH meter at room temperature. Results: Pharmacognostical study showed the presence of certain identifying characters of the ingredients of Palashadi Basti i.e., Palasha, Vacha, Pippli & Shatapushpa. In pharmaceutical study, preliminary physiochemical analysis showed solid content 52.53%w/v, Specific gravity 1.0242 & pH value 5.5 (by pH meter at room temperature. Conclusions: Pharmacognostical and physico-chemical observations revealed the specific characters of all active constituents of Palashadi Basti and confirmed the purity and genuinity of the formulation.
