Abstract

SURANJAN (COLCHICUM AUTUMNALE): A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Unani system of medicine is time tested, centuries old and has holistic approach of treating diseases. There are three sources of drugs in Unani System of Medicine (USM). These are Plant, Mineral and Animal origin drugs. In USM mostly plant origin drugs are prescribed for diseases in single as well as Compound form. Suranjan is one of common plant origin drug of Unani system of Medicine, described by ancient scholars and found effective in modern world also. Colchicine is an alkaloid isolated from Suranjan has been successfully used for Gout in Allopathic system of Medicine. This paper aims at reviewing the importance of Suranjan with special reference to Unani system of medicine.
