Abstract

TRANSFEROSOMES: AN APPROPRIATE DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR EFFECTIVE ADMINISTRATION

Kamal Saroha, Sunil Yadav*, Neha Langyan and Anamika Tanwar

ABSTRACT

In recent years, transdermal drug delivery systems have risen and caught much more attention because of their desired advantages compared to other conventional delivery systems. They provide a controlled release of therapeutic drugs and are non-invasive hence improve patient compliance. A novel transdermal delivery system transferosomes have been introduced recently which is made up of amphipathic ingredients for example phosphatidylcholine and surfactants as bilayer relaxing agents. Transferosomes have overcome the problem of passing large molecules across the stratum corneum layer of the skin by squeezing themselves across the narrow pores of the skin; hence transferosomes can deliver drugs having low and high atomic-weight. This has numerous potential benefits over other traditional methods like evasion of first-pass metabolism, targeted drug delivery, activity with a longer duration, better stability, and reduced side effect. They are bio-compatible and bio-degradable as they are made from natural phospholipids. This review covers various aspects that would be helpful in understanding why transferosomes are designated as a new kind of transdermal medication conveyance framework.

Keywords: Transfersomes, transdermal delivery, controlled release, phospholipid, surfactants, bio-degradable.
