ACUTE HEPATIC FAILURE WITH HEPATIC ENCEPHALOPATHY IN CHILDREN IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
Background: Hepatic encephalopathy is frequent and serious complication of both chronic liver disease and acute liver failure. Hepatic encephalopathy manifest as wide spectrum of neuropsychiatric abnormalities from subclinical changes (Mild cognitive impairment) to marked disorientation, confusion and coma. Therefore it is necessary to evaluate the clinical spectrum and markers influencing the prognosis of patients with hepatic encephalopathy. Case series: It was tertiary level centre based prospective discriptive study, where evaluation of case records of 12 children who came to the department of Pediatrics at Pravara institute of medical sciences, Loni with acute hepatic failure with hepatic encephalopathy between January 2021 to June 2021.
Conclusion: Acute hepatic failure is a disease with High mortality rate. Hepatitis A virus is a common agent of acute hepatic failure in children. Therefore focus should be on prevention of infection with hepatitis A virus by vaccination and society education.
