Abstract

PHARMACOGNOSTICAL AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF AMRUT GHRITA: A POLYHERBAL AYURVEDIC FORMULATION

ABSTRACT

Amrut Ghrita is mentioned as best anti-poisonous formulation. Amrut Ghrita can give life to the patient whose life is in threat because of poison. Sushruta says that in poisoning heart should be prevented primarily and for that purpose he explained Amrut Ghrita. Present study deals with the pharmacognostical identification of ingredients of Amrut Ghrita and its physico-chemical analysis. Pharmacognostical study containing powder microscopy of raw drug revealed the quality and genuineness of all the constituents of Amrut Ghrita. Organoleptic features of coarse powder made out of the crude drugs were within the standards prescribed. Organoleptic analysis & physicochemical analysis results of Amrut Ghrita will be useful for future research works. Specific Gravity of Amrut Ghrita was found to be 0.827; Acid value 1.14, Refractive Index 1.4856 at 400C, Iodine value 34.5, Saponification Value 221 & Ester Value was 219.25.
