Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL GEL CONTAINING ALLIUM CEPA EXTRACT

ABSTRACT

Alopecia areata is a condition specified with patchy, non-cicatricial hair loss. Various natural, home remedies, homeopathic and allopathic treatment have been reported for manage Alopecia areata and to initiated hair re-growth. The current research study is aimed at the formulation and evaluation of herbal topical gel loaded with Allium cepa (A. cepa) for the management of alopecia. The use of A. cepa in hair loss has shown promising results. The topical formulation as gel also provides advantages such sustained/controlled release behavior of drug, higher stability, enhanced contact time, tailored penetration into the epidermis or just below stratum corneum and enhanced solubility of drug that ultimately leads to enhanced therapeutic efficacy. A hydro gel loaded with A. cepa would be a more ideal system as it would be able to provide local effect and maintain a moist environment that will support faster respond for alopecia and promote hair growth. The present study is aimed at developing topical hydrogel of A.cepa, for the manangement of alopecia and hair growth promotion.
