Abstract

THE IMPORTANCE OF PHARMACOECONOMY IN THE ONCOLOGY SECTOR: LITERATURE REVIEW

Carolina Roque Lopes de Oliveira*, Ana Laura Remédio Zeni Beretta

ABSTRACT

Pharmacoeconomics in oncology had as its main regulatory milestone the Ordinance of the Ministry of Health No. 874 of May 16, 2013, which established the National Policy for Cancer Prevention and Control in the Health Care Network for people with chronic disease within the SUS. Pharmacoeconomics is the combination of the description and comparative analysis of costs with the therapeutic outcomes of a drug treatment, health product, or health service, aiming at the optimization of financial resources without harming the quality of life and treatment to the patient. With the advances in oncology patient cases, the value has become unaffordable, because these are very high cost drugs. Health professionals have understood that caring for an oncology patient requires an interdisciplinary approach, which provides integral assistance, in order to understand the patient as a whole, having as a fundamental concern the preservation of the patient's quality of life. The role of the pharmacist is a fundamental part of this patient care, to ensure the quality and safety of the therapy in any stage of the disease and a key part in the finances of the clinic or hospital, because he is the one who standardizes the drugs. Thus, this study aimed, through systematic literature review, collecting data in BIREME - Latin American Literature on Health Sciences (Lilacs), Scientific Electronic Library OnLine (Scielo) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), National Librayof Medicine (PUBMED) and others, to assess the impact of pharmacoeconomics in the oncology sector. The study suggests that the use of pharmacoeconomics has become an excellent tool for decision making regarding the health resources made available. Given this relevance, it is expected that more studies will be carried out so that little by little it will be possible to spread in our society the importance of pharmacoeconomics and that in its success it leads to an improvement in the quality of life for the patient. Pharmacoeconomics will play an important role in future decisions about the use of medicines.
