VESICULAR DELIVERY OF CURCUMIN FOR TOPICAL APPLICATION: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT Curcumin is the golden herb with wide spectrum of therapeutic and prophylactic activities. It is proven anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-cancer agent. It is traditionally being used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes for treating hyperpigmentation, skin cancer and many other skin ailments. Curcumin also bears many advantages as it is a natural ingredient, readily available, economically cheap, and therapeutically safe. But curcumin suffers from disadvantages of poor solubility, stability and bioavailability. This put serious limit over its use as a therapeutic agent. One of the approaches to improve these limitations is to prepare niosomal drug delivery system to have better stability, solubility and greater therapeutic effects.
