STUDY ON THE SAFETY, EFFICACY AND TOLERABILITY OF GLICLAZIDE & GLIMEPIRIDE IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS

ABSTRACT
Background: Type II diabetes mellitus is the chronic metabolic disorder .Gliclazide modified release and Glimepiride are the two sulphonylurea drugs used most frequently in type 2 diabetes treatment. Aim of the study: To study the safety, efficacy and tolerability of Gliclazide & Glimepiride in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and Methods: Prospective observational study done on 50 patients who were on both Gliclazide and Glimiperide in the department of Pharmacology . Mallareddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, Telangana for 6 months duration ie, between February 2020 to July 2020. Results: Majority of the patients were in the age group 41-50 years ie, 42% (21/50), Followed by 22% (11/50),. Male: Female ratio -0.7:125 .Patients treated with gliclazide did not show any adverse drug
reaction. 12 patients with glimepiride showed adverse drug reactions. The HbA1c levels were found to be reduced significantly in patients treated with gliclazide. Conlcusion: Gliclazide showed reduction in fasting blood sugar, 2h-Post prandial blood sugar and HbA1c.
