ABSTRACT

Agni is the factor responsible for every metabolic activity in the body and whole body is dependent on Agni. Hampered Agni causes numerous disorders and one such condition where Agni as well as the Ashaya of Agni is hampered is Grahani roga. The organ Grahani is the seat of Jatharagni. Normally it receives food till the food is fully digested and then passes it into Pakwashaya. Functionally weak Agni i.e. Mandagni cause improper digestion of ingested food & leads to Grahani roga. Due to similarity in clinical presentation, Grahani roga can be correlated with Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). No cure has been found out in modern science to the IBS except symptomatic relief and assurance. As Agnimandhya is important factor in the samprati of Grahani roga, it should be mainly treated by Agnivardhana by Yogas having Deepana and Pachana properties. According to Yogratnakara, Chavyadi Churna is one such formulation having the properties of Deepana, Pachana, Laghu and Ghrahi and hence Chavyadi churna along with Takra Anupana can be useful in treating Grahani roga.

Keywords: Agni, Grahani, IBS, Deepana, Pachana.
