Yadav Ritu*, Sharma Rashmi, Sharma Gaurav and Kotecha Mita

ABSTRACT

The prevalence of diabetes among the world population is 8.8%, according to the International Diabetic Federation (IDF) this will raise to 9% in 2045.[1] Even in the time of developed research and studies people are still struggling to manage Diabetes mellitus. Ayurveda has given a deep approach to the disease ‘madhumeha. As per Ayurveda texts, the use of Madhu or Madhura rasa is not prohibited in diabetes and is indicated for suppressing the Vatavridhi state of the madhumeha patients including brimhana or vatashamaka chikitsa along with madhura rasa. But in the current DM management, physicians hesitate to follow our ancient chikitsa siddhanta. Madhuca indica is a therapeutically significant plant in the Ayurveda as well as in the traditional medical system. The flower extract of M.indica is sweet in taste and been used as a sweetener. The study is aimed to analyze anti diabetic effect of Madhuca indica flower extract using scientific evidences and classical Ayurveda references.

Keywords: Madhumeha, Diabetes mellitus, Madhuca indica, Mahua, Artificial sweeteners.
