CARDIOPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF HYDRO-ALCOHOLIC EXTRACT OF NYMPHEA ALBA LINN. AGAINST ISOPROTERENOL INDUCED MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION IN RATS

ABSTRACT

The hydro-alcoholic extract of Nymphea Alba was studied for the cardioprotective activity using Isoproterenol induced myocardial infarction in rats. Hydro-alcoholic extract of this plant showed significant cardioprotective effect by lowering the serum levels of various biochemical parameters like CPK, LDH and transaminases in the selected model. The results obtained in the present work are in turn with histopathological examinations of heart tissue sections and are comparable with the standard cardioprotective drug. This research is planned to carry out phytochemical studies for the selective extract of Nymphaea Alba Linn. However there is a lack of information regarding the effect of Nymphea Alba on the cardiac changes associated with ISO induced myocardial infarction. Therefore the present study was designed to investigate the modulation of hydro alcoholic extract of Nymphea Alba in ISO induced biochemical and histopathological changes.
