ABSTRACT
Pharmacoeconomics can be defined as a study which uses cost -benefit, cost-effectiveness, cost minimization, cost of illness and cost analysis to compare pharmaceutical products and treatment strategies.[1] It compares the cost of different alternatives of drug therapy and and its consequences upon the healthcare and the society. Thus, this branch has become an oft-used criterion for decision making in modern health care policy. Apart from the economic components, the humanistic components related to pharmacoeconomics include quality of life, patient preferences and patient satisfaction.[2] Pharmacoeconomic evidences can be utilised to support decisions regarding the pricing of drugs by various pharmaceutical companies. Also, these principles can be applied to the hospital pharmacies and the community.
