Sleep is the Natural rejuvenator of life. A good quality sleep refreshes an individual. It is like a break given to mankind for resting and maintaining normal life. In todays Hectic era lots of Lifestyle disorders are originating. Insomnia is one of them. Insomnia is disturbed sleep. It is having more prevalence than HIV, Diabetes, Heart diseases etc. Poor quality of sleep affects body and mind both. Advancement of this condition causes many more complications. Lot of symptomatic efforts have been taken in managing insomnia, but there is no reliable treatment available. As world is facing more and more newer problems, people are seeking for a reliable therapy. Ayurveda is our ancient and proven science. There is detail description of numerous diseases with there pathophysiology and management. Insomnia is no exception for that. A detail description of insomnia has been given in Ayurvedic literature under the various names like Anidra, Nidranash, Nidralpata, Khandit nidra etc. Tarpan is unique feature of Ayurveda. This therapy is having many beneficial effects on human health,one of them is maintaining A good sound sleep. Along with Tarpan, Psychological equilibrium is to be maintained. A best therapy is given in Ayurveda under the heading Satvavjaya chikitsa. Many other measures of treating and preventing Nidranash are given in Ayurveda such as Food habits, lifestyle habits, behavioural habits according to the Ritu, Kaal, Desh and Prakriti of an individual. A combined approach of the above mentioned measures can surely prevent and treat Insomnia. As we know, the main aim of Ayurveda is to prevent the disease and treating it if needed. It doesn‟t only treat the condition but also uproot it from its base cause.
