NEED OF PHARMACOVIGILANCE IN AYURVEDA

ABSTRACT

Today’s era is a tech-savvy era. Everyone is well informed about everything through internet. They know the safety, efficacy and potential dangers about specific thing; that may be a concept, a gazette, or a medicine. The side effects and the doses of medicines are specifically mentioned in particular websites related to drugs. But very few are related to Ayurveda. On the contrary most of the people have this prejudice in their minds that Ayurvedic Products are totally safe; devoid of any side effects. Today this prejudice is making Ayurveda a vulnerable pathy. The thought that it is free of side effects, any person without proper knowledge in the market is able to or daring to manufacture Ayurveda Medicine, sell them and claim them. Even though the Ayurvedic texts do not have direct reference of Pharmacovigilance but there are many concepts which explain Pharmacovigilance. So in order to implement these concepts in manufacturing process there should be sound knowledge of the texts; then only it is possible to understand the Pharmacovigilance in Ayurveda.
