Abstract

REVIEW ON PRONIOSOMES AS A TARGATED DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology is an advancing technology expected to bring revolutionary changes in the field of life sciences including drug delivery, diagnostics, nutraceuticals and biomedical for implants and prosthesis. The advance in nanotechnology helps in preparing latest formulations. One of the advancement in nanotechnology is the preparation of Proniosomes. Proniosomes are dry formulation of water soluble carrier particles that are coated with surfactants. They are rehydrated to form niosomal dispersion immediately before use on agitation in hot aqueous media within minutes. Proniosomes prolong the existence of drug in the systemic circulation and enhance the penetration in to target tissue to cure the diseases and reduce toxicity to other parts of the body. Skin is the main target of topical and transdermal preparations. Major aim of transdermal drug delivery sytem is to cross the stratum corneum and enter the blood circulation and shows the action at the specific site. Now-a-days we better know vesicles have importance in cellular communication. Proniosomes can be converted into niosomes in –situ by absorbing water from the skin.
