Abstract

Uma Thakur*

ABSTRACT

IBS is the most common functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain and alterations in bowel habits frequently encountered in clinical practice with an estimated prevalence in adults to be 11.2% worldwide.[1] IBS is associated with high economic and personal costs. It is a group of symptom which includes abdominal pain, bloating and changes in the pattern in bowel movements because of faulty dietary and life style habits. In Ayurveda, fundamental is to keep the Tridosha in a state of equilibrium. It has been mentioned in Charaka Samhita that the diseased state is result of deranged Agni. Though there is not an exact synonym of IBS in Ayurveda yet classical texts reveals that symptoms of Vatik Pravahika have very close resemblance with symptoms of IBS.[2] Here we are discussing a case report of a 24yr old women having history of diarrhea for the last 2yrs with intermittent episodes of lower abdominal cramping and bloating. In this trial of Bilvamrasthi Churan on IBS is done to introduce a herbal compound with least side effects and efficacy.

Keywords: Tridosha, Vatik Pravahika, Bilvamrasthi churan.
