RATIONALITY IN UNDERSTANDING OF THE MYTHOLOGY BEHIND ORIGIN OF RASADRAVYAS

ABSTRACT

Mythology is a collection of Myth especially to a particular religious or Cultural tradition. A set of stories or beliefs about a particular person or situations.[1] Hindu mythology tells that Lord Brahma -creator of world transmitted knowledge of Ayurveda to mankind. Ayurvedic medicines have both mythological and historical beginnings. Almost all the aspect of Ayurveda including Dravya, Roga etc. has got mythological stories. Rasashastra is oriental science mainly of Hindu origin deals with study of metals & minerals. The main deity of Rasashastra is Lord Shiva. In Rasashastra mentioning of mythological stories is not only for origin of drugs i.e.Dehavada & also related to concept of Dhatuvada. The mythological story has depicted, either to hide the secret of actual formation of the minerals or to narrate the whole process in a poetic manner. It looks somewhat ridiculous to compare the story with the actual process of the production of minerals with present scientific background. Rationality in understanding of the Mythology behind origin of Minerals will be discussed in full article.
